Water based Discharge screen printing, is a method seen mostly in the fashion industry. Although the method seems to be, "just in the stores", we at Evolutionary Screen Printing can also supply you with this method, produced here, on site. A quick explanation of water based discharge screen printing is as follows. Typically, t-shirts are dyed in manufacturing using a formaldehyde based die. The discharge inks allow us to mix in an agent, that essentially discharges, or bleaches out the original die in the image area, and replaces that original die, in the image area, with a pigment that we choose. This method allows you to have a final cured image with zero feel, or, "hand", in the finished image area. Traditional screen printed inks are plastisol inks which are basically a form of liquid plastic. There are several inks on the market today available in plastisol with less hand, or feel. But any time you print on a colored or dark garment, you have to either print with double coats, or an under basing coat which builds up that final ink feel. This is where the discharge printing becomes a hit. Since the discharging agents bleach out the dark dye, in say a black shirt. The pigment that we mix in the agent/base replace that black dye with say, yellow. Colors vary and there are wide variations in how the final outcome is achieved. Either way, the discharge prints are a very unique way to display your graphic on a shirt. For samples of this method, feel free to email or call our office.
